On November 23, 2024, the fifth sound map published by the Nobiscum Foundation will have its premiere, this time documenting the soundscape of Płońsk. The project “Płońsk. Sound map of the Mazovian city on the Płonka river” is being implemented thanks to funding received from the Mazovian Voivodeship.
Modern Płońsk is a busy and quite noisy city – however, the all-day bustle fades significantly in the late afternoon and evenings. We can look for the sounds of nature wandering along the Płonka river that runs through the city or over the Rutki reservoir, but the birds of Płońsk also feel comfortable around 15 Sierpnia Square, in gardens near homes or in other squares. The city’s soundscape is also characterized by the presence of common sounds related to construction, renovation and cleaning works, indicating the process of industrialization. The sound cycle of everyday life in Płońsk is therefore quite varied and marked by unexpectedly high dynamics.
The author of the recordings is Piotr Dąbrowski, the photographs for the project were taken by Gabriela Nowak-Dąbrowska.
The sound map of Płońsk was published as a free CD in an edition of 600, containing 22 field recordings and photographs.
The publication will be available from Saturday, November 23, 2023, at the Płońsk Memorial House, at 2 Warszawska Street, and also directly from the Nobiscum Foundation, e-mail contact: info@fundacjanobiscum.eu
