2025 marks the fifth anniversary of the publication of the first sound map of Płock – 40 field recordings documenting the city’s audiosphere during the restrictions related to the Covid-19 virus. These recordings documented a distinctive sonic landscape in Płock – much quieter, often completely devoid of the bustle typical for many places.
The second installment of the project presents Płock in 43 recordings, many of them with a completely different character. The bustle, mass events, and intense and ubiquitous road and rail traffic. At the same time, the author’s search for zones of relative silence led him to virtually all of Płock’s cemeteries, which, beyond their role as resting places, often become distinctive enclaves where the culturally enforced silence is accompanied by the presence of birds, and the urban noise—though still unavoidable—is mostly located in the background. The project also included the Vistula River, where a hydrophone and a geophone proved useful during the recordings.
The Sound Map of Płock 2025 is the sixth such publication of the Nobiscum Foundation. Piotr Dąbrowski continues to be the author of the recordings, and Gabriela Nowak-Dąbrowska took the photographs as part of the project.
The Płock Sound Map was released as a free double CD in a limited edition of 600 copies thanks to co-funding of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.
The publication will be available from December 15, 2025 at the Płock Local Tourist Organization (8 Old Market Square) in Płock, at the Płońsk Memorial House (2 Warszawska Street) and directly from the Nobiscum Foundation (contact us by email: info@fundacjanobiscum.eu).
